Good show guys. I've been following the USL-TOA Telenovela. That this takes a strong league and makes it into 2 weak leagues is a new perspective for me. This is still a negotiation that we're watching. All the moves, public stances, etc are part of the negotiations. We don't know what each parties' bottom line is so right now, it's a lot of back and forth.
Wanted to comment on MLS relocating teams. Tongue in cheek: Relegation. Weak teams go to USL, sell off major players. Get their budget to under 1 million. USL team moves up. Haven't figured out the 45 million franchise fee though.
Grant Wahl mentioned that Fifa may require gauranteed contracts. So they may still be on the table. Personally i wouldn't work for less then 85K at my current job let alone a professional athelete. Don't you think that even past a livable wage they cap needs to be upped to say 9 or 10 million to get some better talent? I personally don't care about the owners lining their pockets. The Galaxy can afford 10 million and nobody is forcing them to spend outside their profits but honestly until teams get to keep all their profits their is no incentive for crap no money making teams to step of their game on the profitability side. I'm not a big MLS watcher and one of the big reasons is the structure of the league holds back profitable teams from being as good as they could, give little incentive to become profitable as bad teams get carried, and all of this results in a low salary cap, unhappy journeymen living on poverty wages, and a lack of ability to attract talent. Why shouldn't The Galaxy be able to sign Thierry Henry for 2 million to play with Beckham and Donovan. That puts asses in the seats, that i'd go see. But they can't now cause of the cap which is only so absurdly low because teams like KC and Dallas and San Jose etc continue to be carried by the torontos and Seattles and the Galaxys. What say you?
